Rig life & upkeep.

Start with a practical budget, then stress-test it. The ballparks below are illustrative planning choices—not measured Z15 Pro life expectancy, supplier quotes or guarantees. Keep physical wear separate from network difficulty.

Ballpark / Years from mining start

Plan for 3. Test 2 and 5.

New rig: use 3 operating years as a working recovery window; test an early exit at 2 and continued operation to 5. These are decision horizons, not a prediction that the machine fails then.

Secondhand rig: test 1, 2 and 3 further operating years, with 2 as a cautious working case until its condition and history are verified. Model age alone does not reveal a unit’s age or remaining life.

7–10+ years: an extended-use possibility to investigate, not a bankable lifespan. Parts, repairs and electricity economics may determine when you stop.

These windows start when mining starts. The calculator horizon starts now and includes delivery delay; add that delay when testing these operating windows. It does not automatically retire or replace a rig.

Ballpark / Per rig · NZD

Set money aside for upkeep.

NZ$300 / year · $25 / month
Light-cost scenario.
NZ$600 / year · $50 / month
Working budget scenario.
NZ$1,200 / year · $100 / month
Higher-cost stress test; repairs can exceed this.

Round-number allocations for parts, servicing and repair freight—not observed averages or NZ quotes. Excludes power, equipment insurance and replacement of the whole rig. GST treatment remains unassessed.

Three rigs at the working budget = NZ$150/month. Enter the whole-fleet amount in Other ongoing non-power, adding any other costs already covered there. Nothing is applied automatically.

Ownership timeline / Checkpoints, not failure rates

What changes with age?

  • Year 1Benchmark hashrate, temperatures and power; confirm warranty and record faults.
  • Years 2–3Track fan condition, cleaning, repairs and actual downtime.
  • Years 3–5Reassess condition, parts availability and the repair budget.
  • Years 5–7Compare repair versus replacement costs and remaining profitability.
  • Years 7–10+Extended operation requires condition and support checks; do not assume survival.

New versus used / Check the actual unit

Condition beats model year.

New: verify genuinely unused condition, batch, shipment date and who provides warranty. New old stock is not a new design.

Used: request operating hours/history, repairs, overclocking history and a sustained load test showing board health, temperatures, power and stable hashrate. Unknown history warrants a shorter recovery test and higher upkeep scenario—not an invented remaining-life guarantee.

Availability scenarios: 98%, 95% and 90% uptime allow about 7, 18 and 37 days offline per year respectively. They are sensitivity tests, not measured failure rates.

Physical degradation: no automatic annual deduction is recommended without measurements. A 0–2% wear assumption is not an established Z15 Pro rate. Use uptime for lost operating time and network growth for competition; do not count the same loss twice.

01 / Name the life you mean

Three different clocks.

Physical service life
Whether a machine remains operable and repairable.
Economic life
Whether revenue still justifies power, maintenance and other costs.
Warranty
A contractual remedy, not evidence that a unit will last that long.

Thermal and dust problems, and component failure, can reduce or stop output; no fixed annual wear percentage is evidenced. Depreciation or resale value is not proof of life. The horizon includes shipping and commissioning delay, but does not simulate deterioration, retirement, replacement or individual failures. Network growth represents competition, not physical wear.

02 / Keep availability visible

Planning checks, not a repair manual.

  • Daily proposalReview the normal dashboard state for hashrate, chip state and temperatures.
  • Weekly proposalInspect the operating environment for airflow, dust, moisture or corrosion risk.
  • Monthly referenceBITMAIN dust-cleaning guidance recommends cleaning monthly, earlier when dirt impedes cooling.

Daily and weekly frequencies are a local planning checklist, not manufacturer-mandated intervals. Monthly care requires power-off and isolation of both Z15 Pro power inputs. Do not open mains/PSU equipment or attempt board repair; use qualified service. BITMAIN’s general ANTMINER precautions cover airflow, dust, condensation, humidity and static safeguards; its Z15 Pro hub links model documentation.

03 / Conditional manufacturer reference

A tariff is not an annual maintenance budget.

BITMAIN’s repair page, updated 27 Mar 2026, lists the following Z15-series reference charges. They are conditional repair charges, not replacement prices or a forecast of what will fail.

Published reference charges in USD, subject to assessment
ReferenceUSDBoundary
Z15-series hashboard110 / unitExact Pro and batch eligibility unverified.
Air-cooled PSU150Not a new-part retail quote.
No-fault inspection60Separate diagnosis outcome.

Final assessment and quotation govern; fans and control boards depend on exact part/model, and separately returned defective parts may be charged retail. Repair shipping policy generally leaves the customer paying to send a unit in, with return exceptions and no guaranteed delivery time. NZ service route, labour, repair freight, cover, customs and downtime are unknown. Failure modes including fan, PSU, control-board, hashboard and thermal faults are documented, but their incidence is not; serious burned, corroded or broken boards can be unrepairable through official service.

04 / Map the current calculator

Use the input already there.

Other ongoing non-power is a manually assessed whole-fleet monthly place for maintenance labour, parts and repair freight. It excludes electricity and the existing annual equipment-insurance allowance, and it does not automatically rescale when rig count changes. Leave it blank where unassessed; an annual per-rig planning allocation multiplied by rig count and divided by 12 is only an allocation, not a predicted invoice.

Uptime represents lost mining yield only. The current calculator still charges 730 power hours per month after mining begins. Budget actual repairs separately; do not enter lost revenue again as a cash expense when uptime already reduces yield.

05 / Evidence gaps remain live

Warranty and support need batch proof.

The accessed official Z15 Pro listing states 180 days from shipment for the original BITMAIN direct purchaser; resale cover is the reseller’s responsibility. That is not a guaranteed rig life and does not verify the LeedMiner Jan/Feb batch term. BITMAIN’s general policy says coverage follows the sales contract and manufacturer shipment date; published 365-day BTC-miner terms do not establish Z15 Pro cover. Require serial, batch, contract and seller-versus-manufacturer responsibility evidence before relying on it.

Support can end before a rig physically fails: BITMAIN’s dated end-of-service list includes older Z9 models, not a remaining-life estimate for this catalogue. Shorter and longer horizons are sensitivity tests, never claimed survival periods.
